Specifying Dried Botanicals for Extraction

Dried botanical material is rarely a single product. The same plant can be supplied whole-leaf, cut, crushed or powdered, and each format behaves differently in extraction and blending.
Drying and handling
How material is dried influences colour retention and aroma. Shaded, controlled drying generally preserves appearance better than rapid open-sun drying, though the right choice depends on the plant and the buyer's application.
Building a clear specification
An extractor's specification usually names the plant part, cut size, foreign matter tolerance and packing. Adding the intended solvent or process helps a supplier flag any mismatch before production begins.
